Some Old Pictures from Tripoli Arcadia

Postby Nikos » Fri Oct 05, 2007 9:49 pm

Came across these in my pops old photos, setting is Kapsia, a village just outside Tripoli, Arcadia. The wedding of my Aunt in July 1959, pictures of the precesion to the Church and a glimpse of the Wedding dance that followed. Sadly traditions like these are rarely followed in the moryias nowadays...enjoy ZHTO H ARCADIA (im in a strange mood to dance now) lol

beautiful photos!

i was married in 2002 in a village overlooking the bay of kalamata and had a similar experience to those people in the photos. i was fortunate enough to have my cousin's dance troupe band play at the reception. much to everyone's surprise a few band members went to the house where my husband was getting ready (along with alot of guests from the u.s.) start the party. the cute old ladies from the village also came over and sang beautiful wedding songs. then they all walked to the church while the band played. unfortunately, i was not there since i wasn't allowed to see the groom!!! argh.
right after the ceremony they made us do a few dances in the church courtyard. it was a great experience to participate in those customs which you don't see too often anymore. if i can figure out how to post photos on this thing, then i will!

thanks for sharing!
